Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh by Bike for May holidays
Join us on a bicycle trip to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. We will visit Armenian monuments, ride through gorgeous valleys, visit distant villages and cross high mountain passes. During this cycling trip we will reach the Lake Sevan and admire breathtaking canyons almost from a bird's eye view. But that is not all, we will also ride the longest bilateral cableway in the world - Wings of Tatev and visit the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh!
We will stay with local hosts whom might reveal to us the secrets of the local cuisine and culture of this country. Most of the products that we will eat are organic - straight from the garden. We will taste the local specialties: kebab, dolma and shashlik. Our luggage will be transported by car (which will also be there to assist us in the event that any of the travelers might need support) so that we can travel lightly.
Departure from Poland and transfer to the town of "the purest air of Armenia" - Dilijan. On the way, visiting the reconstructed ancient Garni temple (UNESCO) with original mosaics and one of the main attractions of the trip - the several-level monastery complex Geghard (UNESCO). Drive to the the shores of the mountainous lake Sevan, sometimes called the Armenian sea, sightseeing Sewanavank - a monastic complex located on a peninsula, then visit in the local brewery and a possibility to swim in the Sewan lake :)
Preparing bikes and going to the mountains. At the beginning a warm-up descent and a gentle climb to the Goshavank monastery. Then, through a picturesque valley and a first-rate, though almost unused, asphalt road, we reach one of the mountainous villages nearby. There will be a rich dinner awaiting us. For those willing opportunity to ride or walk around the area.
Continuation of the driveway through the village up to the pass at 2300 m above sea level. Then take the exit to the shores of the mountainous lake Sevan. Lunch break - exquisite Sevan fish specialty. Then we will follow the deserted shore of the lake on a stony but even terrain. This stage is almost a hundred kilometers of beautiful route, but its major part is driving down. We will get to Martuni, where we will have the opportunity to taste Sevan crayfish.
Driveway to the Vardanyants Pass (2410 m above sea level), where we will have the opportunity to visit the wonderfully preserved medieval Selim Caravanserai. Once, this road was a part of the southern path of the Silk Road. Then a long drive through a beautiful road to southern Armenia - the province of Vayots Dzor. Afternoon ride on a beautiful road towards the Noravank monastery, located between the red rocks. Overnight in Yegheghnadzor.
We are going to the mountains again, this time they will be volcanic. Picturesque valleys up to the village of Hermon. On the way, we will visit the medieval cemetery of the Mountainous Jews and continue the driveway to, as you can see at first glance, the highest located village in Armenia. We will be accompanied by magnificent views, the uniqueness of the place cut off from the world and an excellent dinner and conversations with the locals.
Today we will have a break from the cycling and we will drive to Nagorno Karabakh. On the way we will visit the "Armenian Stonehenge" - Zorats Karer and walk on the new rope bridge to the rock town of Khndzoresk. We will take the longest rotatable cable car in the world – Wings of Tatev (5.7 km) and if we have enough time we will take a bath in hot springs. By the end of the day we will reach the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh - Stepanakert.
Drive through the picturesque mountains to the Gandzasar monastery, work of art from the 13th century. From the village of Vank, we will go further to the Kelbajar region to the Dadivank monastery, visit this beautiful, ninth-century monastery and stay in the neighboring village.
Through the Zod Pass (2420 m above sea level), we will leave the Nagorno Karabakh and drive back to Armenia. We will finish our cycling trip in the city of Vardenis or Martuni. Packing bikes and transfer to Yerevan.

The term is suitable for cyclists. In the valleys it can be hot - the temperature will exceed 20 degrees Celsius. When riding through the mountain straits and at night, in villages, the temperature can occasionally drop even to 5 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is recommended to also have warmer clothing for both the bike and the evening.
ROUTE AND HOW TO DRIVE:
The route usually is going through an asphalt roads, which is why it is also suitable for trekking bikes. However, we advise mountain bikes to take advantage of some routes without asphalt. We cycle only with small backpacks, our luggage will be transported by the car, which will also help in the event of a possible health disability of any of the participants.
Dinners and breakfast (included) are prepared mostly from homemade, organic products. During the day you will be able to buy snacks in shops in most villages or small restaurants (limited choice). Next to Sevan lake we will have the opportunity to try local fish or crayfish. In the mountains you can taste delicious shashliks. Armenia is also friendly for vegetarians. Dinners in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Geghard are not include in the price.
